The name 'The Life Church' was inspired by the scripture found in John 10:10 (NIV) where Jesus says: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." 2002 was a year of new beginnings for the church, as this new name was brings with it a new era for the church, with new opportunities and fresh vision. The church itself, though, is in fact over 40 years old, with a fascinating history and an undying passion to love and serve God.Founded as 'Auckland Christian Fellowship' the church was birthed at a tent crusade run by Rob & Beryl Wheeler and a team from Tauranga on November 10, 1964.
After using several rented halls the church was able to purchase 'Haddon Hall' in central Auckland for their permanent home. The church has always had a vision to train new leaders. Over its lifetime it has supported the work of several bible colleges, and to this day supports the ongoing vision of Phlair International College (formally New Covenant International Bible College), based in Auckland.
In 1979 Haddon Hall was sold to purchase the old Karitane Hospital in Mt Albert to house the newly formed Christian College 'Hebron'. At the same time Auckland Christian Fellowship began meeting at Epsom Girls Grammar School to allow the college full use of the Mt Albert site. Auckland Christian Fellowship released Hebron Christian College in 1990 to become an independent trust-run school.
In October 1991 Bruce & Maude McDonald became the Senior Ministers of Auckland Christian Fellowship, and in 2000 Bruce became the National Leader of the New Life Churches of New Zealand, and held that office for three years.
2002 saw 'Auckland Christian Fellowship' (ACF) become 'The Life Church'. We have a passion to enable people to find answers to all of life's challenges and have developed the primary vision of the church called 'Pathways'.
In 2005 The Life Church in conjunction with Phlair International Colleges purchased the property at 60 Rockfield Road, Penrose.
After a large reconstruction program the College and Church offices moved in, and with a continuing program of construction of the auditorium and cafe areas, providing a place to meet after church.
